Wellness Wednesday: Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic

My journey to wellness is going strong people!

I'm losing weight (woo hoo!), feeling less pain overall (my neck and my back), my digestion issues are so much better, and my attitude is great.  I have so many ways for you to join me.  Read through to the end and I'll share all about them below.  But first, I would like to talk about Apple Cider Vinegar and my experience.

During my last trip to Louisiana in January, to visit my in-laws, my mother-in-law told me I should to take a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar every morning to help me lose weight and assist in digestion.  I let her know, I would probably not be taking her advice, ha!  However, after doing some research and getting my Young Living Essential Oils kit in February, I decided to try my hand at a tonic.

Supposedly, the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) are improved weight loss, helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol, stabilizes blood sugar, enhances skin health and aids in digestion.  There are a plethora of other benefits and you can check them out here.  You can take ACV in small amounts (a teaspoon should work - too much undiluted ACV would be too harsh on your throat and stomach), in a drink (as I do), in your food (think salad dressing) and even topically.

I think the claims are fairly true.  It's helped me to stave off some colds and I don't take my digestive enzymes if I'm having my ACV Tonic.  The digestive benefits are very noticeable for me and that's one reason I wanted to share the recipe.  And, it's so easy!

  • Lidded mason jar (makes mixing easy)
  • 1 tsp. Unfiltered Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tsp. Maple Syrup (or try honey)
  • 2 - 3 drops Lemon Vitality Essential Oil
  • 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger or fresh peeled if you have it
  • 1 c. water
  • ice (only pebble ice for me)

Measure all ingredients except ice into mason jar.
Close the lid and shake it up!!
Add ice and shake some more.

What a gorgeous color, ay!  Now, I actually have the palate for enjoying vinegar and acidic tastes but still, a vinegar tonic??  I was just so unsure but it's actually really good and refreshing.  The maple syrup is what does it for me.  I was so pleasantly surprised.

I really appreciate that I was able to use my Lemon Vitality Oil in this.  Perhaps I'll do a full post on why I am completely obsessed with Essential Oils and start sharing some of my favorite oils and diffuser blends.  Stay tuned!

Have you tried any kind of health tonic?  What were the main ingredients?  I'm definitely going to try some others.

As promised, here's a recap of ways you can join me on my journey to wellness.  I'd love to hear what "wellness" means to you and what your goals are.
