Merry Christmas everyone!

Our awesome Christmas cards from Minted!

I love this time of year and what Christmas means (or is supposed to mean).  Driving around looking at Christmas lights with Dax is one of my favorite activities and the hubs and I have made this an annual tradition.  Giving, being charitable and cooking for others also makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.  Going outside in this sunny, 60 degree weather can account for that feeling as well.  Texas.  Gotta love an unseasonably warm winter so far.  Not really.  I want it cold!

Aside from weather disappointment, I have so much to be grateful for.  There were some tough moments we went through as a family that maybe I'll share in a later post, but the Evans folks are ready for whatever the next year brings us.  We are happy and hopeful.  I hope this season and the next year finds you all happy and hopeful as well.  Be blessed.  Merry Christmas!!

Three Days in San Francisco

Wednesday, November 25, 2015
I just returned home from traveling to San Francisco for a few days to attend the wedding of a dear friend.  I'd never been and it has been a bucket list place to visit.  From the moment I stepped off the BART and went up the escalator to Powell and Market, I was in love.

I took way too many pics to share so I'll be editing those for a photo book soon.  However, I did want to post a few outfit pics because ... outfit pics.  BTDubs, these are not Instagram pics.   My phone has cool feature that takes nifty square photos.

This was my traveling outfit on Day 1.  A cape (or poncho or ruana) and a crossbody bag are Fall travel must-haves, in my opinion.  Both are great for navigating through airports and streets.

Cape: Nordstrom; Cowl neck sweater (old): Victoria's Secret (similar); Crossbody: Coach; Pants: Old Navy Pixie; Suede Flats: Vince Camuto
Day 2.  The morning weather was sunny and cool, perfect for a light sweater, scarf and jeans.  I went on a bus tour and brought my cape along to fend off the wind of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Sweater:  Loft (similar) (previously seen here); Scarf (old): similar; Crossbody: Coach; Jeans: Old Navy; Nude Flats:Dorothy Perkins

Also Day 2.  My wedding guest dress.  This is after the super fun and love filled wedding (and dinner and dancing).  I was running late before (shocker) so I didn't have time for a pic.  My hair was down most of the night until the frizzies started to kick in.  Kept my shoes on all night.  Boom.  Lost one of my earring backs.  Not so boom.

Dress: Tahari (similar); Bangles (old): similar; Clutch (old): similar; T-strap Wedges: Kors Michael Kors (similar)
My going home outfit on Day 3 was a simple tan button down blouse and the jeans and nude flats again.  Easy and comfortable.  No #OOTD pic, however.  Also, I stayed at the Clift Hotel which was nice.  I liked the decor throughout the hotel and the room was nice.  Not a luxury place but a respectable boutique hotel.

There are some better close up pics on Instagram.  Also, don't forget you can click below to shop these looks (Affiliate links).

Watch What Happens

Wednesday, October 14, 2015
I like watches.  They just look good on my wrist.  I know - #Shallow.  However, as much as I like watches, you can only go so far with the mid-range brands of Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Citizen.  There is something about a fancy watch, as I like to call it, which just lets you know you are in the presence of luxury.  You know what brands I’m talking about.  Most have a very long legacy.  But there is one watch maker in particular that I have grown intrigued by, the Swiss watch brand Louis Moinet.  The brand was named after the inventor of the chronograph.  Now that is a great legacy.

Louis Moinet is celebrating the bicentennial of the chronograph with the release of a magnificent timepiece, the Memoris.
This exquisite wrist machine was Nominated for the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie of Geneva.  There are a limited number of these beauties being produced.  They have taken an entirely new approach to the function and design of the Chronograph and the details on the casing are really unique.  It is breathtaking and truly rare and special.  See, I told you I like watches.

Please visit the website of Louis Moinet and read more about this luxury brand and the unique features of the Memoris.

Happy October!

photo via Evanscounty.org

This is my favorite month of the year and it certainly starts off my favorite time of the year.  I love when Daylight Savings ends and I get my hour back.  I love the cool crisp air (which finally arrived here in Dallas yesterday morning, sort of).  And I most certainly love all the Holidays that are coming up.

My son, not so much.  This morning, he wore pants for the first time in several months and literally had a conniption.  Literally - here's the definition of conniption and that is what he had.  He wanted to wear shorts.  I tried to reason with him, letting him know it was cooler outside and he was going to have to start wearing pants and jackets.  Mentioning jackets took him over the edge.  Why did I do that?  In the end, he wore the pants because I'm the mom and that's how we roll at Casa de Cochran-Evans.

So dealing with an "old toddler" as I like to call him, may not be cool but the weather is and so is my attitude.  I've been trying harder lately to put on a good face and be more into the way I look.  I need more vanity in my life, people.  I thought I would give you a peek into some products I've been using for the past month or so.

https://instagram.com/thecocooners/
On my nails is 'Berlin There Done That' from OPI and it was a birthday gift.  Adore the beigey, purple grey and it dries in a decent amount of time.

My current moisturizer is Sulwhasoo's Timetreasure Renovating Cream.  Let me make a quick disclaimer and say that the 60ml size is ex-peh-hen-sive!  I am fortunate enough to have quite a few samples on hand and a small amount of this goes a long way.  It is very rich.  Smells like mushrooms to me so I only use it at night.

The Prada Candy fragrance is c/o the Vogue Influencer Network.  I've been wearing it for about two weeks now.  I tend to like "darker" fragrances but this one manages to be light and airy while still invoking notes of caramel, musk and vanilla that I enjoy.

This lovely little eye palette was also a birthday gift and I love the colors.
Yes, I have sweet friends!  It's the Profusion Runway Eyeshadow Glamour Palette in Berry Bloom.   I'm not so much into Marsala even though Pantone tells me I should be (I'm still on an oxblood kick - more on that below) but this palette works great with darker fall colors.

https://instagram.com/thecocooners/
Speaking of Oxblood, I'm pulling out my new handbag next week.  The Coach Scout Hobo in oxblood.  It's a decent size and my alternative to black for now.  I'll do an outfit post or two with it soon.

Today's #Shoefie.  I love these old Nine West Animal print flats.  The square toe makes your feet look smaller.  Not a bad thing. - just sayin'.  Find similar styles here and here!

Go follow me on Instagram, won't you?

Finally Foiled

Tuesday, September 15, 2015
If you follow me on Instagram you know that a while back I purchased the Heidi Swapp Minc Machine.  If you don't know, it's a foil applicator (like a fancy laminator).  I purchased mine at Amazon and now it's on sale!

I can't believe it took me so long to finally use it.  I love it.  Something about making shiny stuff, I suppose.  Here are two 12" x 12" prints that I crafted up.

I think I will make a few more and put them up on the store and start selling them at my trunk shows, you know, when I get around to hosting them.  Stay tuned on that.   I hope to have one at the casa in October.

Tidbits and Stuff

Brands and Trends:
This is a great article about handbags specifically but I agree with the points it touches on about branding.  http://finance.yahoo.com/news/woman-abandoned-longtime-wardrobe-staple-211305337.html  For the most part, I just don’t want what everyone else has.  I like to get in on trends when they first happen.  I like to think of myself as an early adapter, but only for certain items.  Only for what I truly like and enjoy.   I don’t want anything just b/c someone else has it... except for Brad Pitt.  But I actually wanted him way before my girl Angie got her hands on him so I digress.

French Grey:

Loving this color.  I'm a huge fan of Le Creuset Cookware and am so excited that Williams-Sonoma carries this limited edition color.  Gorgeous!  And if you are worried about how expensive the brand is, I have come to your rescue because this Le Creuset Stoneware Shallow Square Covered Baker is very affordable and functional.

The Bed:
via Birch Lane
I believe I have found a bed for our Master.  The Sullivan Bed from Birch Lane.  I love the color and texture of the natural seagrass.  It's casual but still has lots of presence.  My dream crusher husband even likes it and usually for him, everything is meh.  But not this lovely.  He actually said, "that's cool, babe."  That means it's dope and I have a chance at procuring it.  Stay tuned.  Love it!

In other news:
Things in life are going pretty well.  Dax is slowly but surely getting potty trained.  It is really testing our patience, especially mine as I'm the default parent.  Even through the frustration, Dax is such an amazing joy and light.  He's my numero uno!  Not too long ago, I was super burned out at my day job and was kind of checked out but I generally have a good work ethic and it paid off.  I received a promotion and a raise and I am very happy about that.  It was one of my goals for this year and it means a lot.  I hope I don't get too comfortable working for the "man" b/c I still have a 2 year plan of working completely for myself/from home but for now, it's nice.  Feeling very grateful.  Prayers do get answered, #justsayin.

The Last Days

Wednesday, July 29, 2015
Don't be so glum, I'm not talking about the last days of life - just the last days of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

The sale ends August 2nd which is right around the corner.  And just so you know, it's not all about me and what I would buy for myself.  Today, you get to see some of my cutest pics for the littles in your life.

Master Peace

Friday, July 17, 2015
We are slowly getting our master bedroom together.  We purchased our side tables from Pottery Barn, and now we are looking for a bed/headboard, lamps and some classic and comfortable linens.  However, being in Texas in the summer calls for some edits to our bedroom space as we plan on having peaceful nights of slumber.  I don't want to buy too much now and create a heavy space that literally feels too warm.

In the summer, I remove our duvet cover and let the duvet go commando.  We have a very light weight down comforter so without a heavier duvet cover, it's really the perfect amount and cozy coverage for summer nights.  I still need new linens that will complement my stark white comforter.  I came across some gorgeous linens at Parachute Home and am intrigued by the possibility of getting linens from Italy.  That's the elitist snob in me, y'all!

Photo via Parachute Home
I read on the Parachute Blog that in Europe, the use of a top sheet is quite uncommon.  This blew my American mind.  But think about it.  Why do you need a top sheet, especially in the summer?  I can't come up with a reason.  And one less thing to buy - my budget likes that!

I think this set of pillow cases and a fitted sheet in crisp, white cotton percale would be perfect for our room for summer and beyond.

What do you do to get your bedroom ready for summer nights?  Do you sleep with a top sheet or without?

The Decision

Monday, July 13, 2015
So everyone knows that once you have your first child, the folks start immediately asking, "When are you going to have another one?"  For the longest time, we weren't sure if we wanted to have another one.  Meaning, I wasn't sure if I wanted another one.  I prayed so hard for Dax and he's here.  He's really enough so I just wasn't sure I wanted to rock the boat, aka my life, our life, with another child.  It is a decision I have thought and stressed about for a good year (or more) now.  Weighing the pros and cons, mulling over being Advanced Maternal Age (such a disgusting term to me) and doubly high-risk, wanting a girl, trying save money in case... and finally, I decided I wanted to try for another one.  So that meant I needed to share my feelings and my decision with my husband to see if he was on board.  Surprisingly, it was one of the easiest conversations we've had.  Not that I thought he'd flat out say no but I thought I'd meet some resistance or the obligatory, it's not the right time.  But alas, my baby daddy is ready to sail these uncharted waters.

It may not happen, and that's ok but we are ready to give it to God and see.  If it doesn't happen naturally, then it just won't happen.  I'm not stressing and how unusual is that!  I've also come to terms with the fact that I could have another boy and you know what, that would be great too.  I would hardly need anything new thanks to Big Bro Dax and my unwillingness to part from anything of his.  Seriously, whatever happens will be fine but at least we've finally made the decision to try.  The relief of not stressing over this anymore has lifted an anchor from my shoulders.  And now, we're off.

This Is Big!

Thursday, July 9, 2015
It's time for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and here's your chance for Early Access!  Nordstrom Rewards Members earn double points now through July 16‏.  Sweet.  I'm supposed to be on a budget but I may have to scramble up some ends from somewhere.  This is too good to miss!

Here are some of my picks:

Peach

Thursday, June 4, 2015
My husband recently told me he thinks I look pretty in peach so of course, I am all about it now (I didn't look too shabby here either).  Thought I would share my window shopping with you.  These are so affordable!  Do you like peach as a wearable color?  Which top is your favorite?

Lay It Down

Sunday, May 24, 2015
My styling class is over and I passed!  I received a 90 on my final project so I'll take it.  We could either do a styled shoot with a photog, model, makeup artist, etc. or a laydown shoot (clothing is styled flat).  I really couldn't get everyone together to assist me in a live shoot so I chose to do a laydown.  I did a total of three looks and below are my two favorite ones.

Strapless Maxi (old): similar here and here; Infinity scarf - DIY: similar here; Earrings - Kirkland's: similar here; Metallic blue bangles - Forever 21 (old): similar here; gold lame clutch - vintage: similar here and here; gold thong sandals - Victoria's Secret (sold out): try these

Ikat Hi-Lo Maxi - Frenchrum Emporium; Belt - Frenchrum Emporium (sold out); Gold hoops - Mark (Avon): similar here; Bamboo link bracelet - Dillards (old): also cute here; Coral Quatrefoil Long Necklace - via Bella Salon: these are cute; Bag - Foley + Corinna Jet Set Satchel; Shoes - Yves Saint Laurent Fatale (old): similar here and these are so cute!

So what do you think?  My project is titled Future Romance and here is my mood board:

http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=161364459

I may do more outfit posts like these laydowns.  It's easy, fun and let's face it, I'm not as secure taking pictures of myself these days so laydowns solve that issue.

Into That Ikat

Tuesday, May 19, 2015
Look at this cute easy, breezy dress we just added to the boutique.  I love it (bought one for myself, of course).  I'm still really into ikat and I love the little pop of coral at the straps.

New items added weekly so make sure to check the store often.  We have lots of items on sale too.  Happy Shopping!

Not Feeling Very FIT

Tuesday, May 12, 2015
I have spread myself a bit thin these days by taking an online course at FIT New York - Intro to Fashion Styling.  I absolutely love it.  I can't wait to share my final project with you - it's not due until May 24 so stay tuned.  But I just wanted to share how busy I've been and of course my little blog has suffered.  I was going to continue on with the classes in pursuit of an online Image Consulting Certificate.  Now, I'm rethinking.  Working full-time with a toddler is not my idea of a good life (for me - you do what you want).  I think I have to re-evaluate some work choices before I continue with my education.  I'm so tired and grumpy these days (more than usual, ok) and I know my poor husband is trying to help me as best he can.  Unfortunately, he can't help me feel fulfilled in my career life and that's what I'm trying to work on.

Family - great.  Friends - fantastic.  Work/Career... wah wah.  I've got a lot to plan out and sort out but I have some big changes coming up.  Everyday I ask God for strength and he's giving it to me but man, when I think about all the time I'm away from my Dax everyday, it makes me sad.  It's too much.  I want to be present in his life way more than I am now and especially if I have another little one.  Don't get your hopes up - no plans have been made to pop out another little yet!

What does your ideal work-life balance look like?  For me, it's way more family time and time for myself than working for someone else.  I wish it was easier!

10 Questions

Thursday, April 16, 2015
1.  Why are sweet potato fries just now popular?  Where were they in 1986?  I ate sweet potatoes in 1986.

2.  And on that note, where did Kale come from.  I never heard of it until about 5 years ago and I am not a young person.

3.  Just who is Stan Smith?

4.  What does it all mean?  Ok, I threw this one in to make sure you are paying attention.  But seriously...?

5.  Is my love of fashion for good or for evil?

6.  Would you have any Grey Poupon?  If so, you might want to make these.  Yum!

7.  How is Murphy's Law a real thing?  It is so true!

8.  Why can't The Walking Dead come on all year long with a new episode EVERY single Sunday?

9.  How can Motherhood be so amazing and so scary at the same time?  I am in awe at the amount of love I have for my son but with that comes lots of worry!

10.  Can I keep my son in a bubble (literally and figuratively)?  See #9.

Totes rand, I know, but these are the kinds of things I think about.

Spring Shoe Roundup

Friday, April 10, 2015
I get obsessive about a lot of things.  I think that's why I never smoked crack.  I would've have certainly become a crackhead.  And then I would not have been able to afford my shoe habit.  And I am currently obsessed with criss-cross sandals (see how I did that there?).  Something about the cut of the cross on the vamp really flatters my little sausage toes.  And that is important to me, b/c I cannot have busted looking toes.  Otherwise, I would just cover them up always and that would not be fun.  So to celebrate how amazing criss-cross sandals look on my feet, I wanted to share with you my roundup of some super cute styles I've been eye-balling.  I bet they will look good on your feet too.  Even if you have a raptor toe.  Maybe.
