Holiday Dinner Party

Monday, December 24, 2012

One of my gorgeous besties, Kelly and I are starting a party planning business called Fête and Festive.  To kick off some of our creative juices, we decided to throw a Dinner Party for a few of our girlfriends.  We had a limited space so we had a small guest list which made planning a breeze.
We had a few phone pow-wows and emails on the menu and decor and that was it.  Kel suggested a peacock-ish color scheme based on the gorgeous aqua of her mother's China.  This was a dinner party, y'all and no paper plates.  I loved that we featured an entrée (Balsamic Slow Cooked Roast Beef) rather than all hor d'oeuvres and we had an actual cocktail hour.  Fancy menu and planning aside, it was a very fun and casual party that I loved being a part of.  And true to form with my girls, the night ended with lots of dancing (although it was while playing Dance Party 4 on the Wii).

BTW - the necklace is Bauble Bar

I even made a little card for the goodie bags featuring our own Instagram hashtag #KelCamHolidayParty.

French Moroccan Family Room

Thursday, December 20, 2012
We should be closing on the house in a week.  I am beyond excited.  Not even sure there is a word for it.  A house, a HOME, for Christmas.  So blessed I am.  Read Ephesians 2:8 and you will know how I feel.

I am so ready to furnish our new mini-mansion and I created an inspiration board for the family room.  This will be one of the most important rooms to finish quickly.  My last home had a definite French Country feel to it in the family room and kitchen, although quite contemporary with no traditional blue and yellow (see pics here).  I want to keep a sense of some French country design but I wanted a new and fresh theme as well.  I thought a Moroccan feel to the family room would be great to transition from a French Country-ish kitchen.  Although Morocco never really was colonized by the French, the two have an intertwined history which makes for a perfect design theme.

Here are some of the items featured and more Moroccan inspired pieces:

I also drew from the colors of the kitchen which features dark Ebony cabinets and golden charcoal granite.  What do you think about the color palette and overall design plan?

Get It, Got It: Winter Work Wear

Monday, December 17, 2012
I'm starting a new series, "Get It, Got It."  I'm taking some aspirational pieces and virtually styling them with pieces I already own.  Maybe I will eventually purchase the the "Get It" items and blog an outfit post.  Or maybe I'll just have fun dreaming.

Got It:  Vintage clutch (gifted) similar here; mark. Earrings; Loft Mustard Suede Pumps (similar here and here); YuniKelley Gold bracelet; Eddie Borgo Ring c/o Moda Operandi

Grammar Love

Wednesday, December 5, 2012
I saw the pic below on Pinterest today and thought I would share a funny story.

On Thanksgiving morning, I put a sticky note on the bathroom mirror so my husband would find it and profess his love for me and tell me how thoughtful and sweet I was.  It said, "I am Thankful for you."  Well, it really said, "I am Thankfull for you."  So when my husband saw it and brought it to my attention, the first thing he says to me is, "Babe, you spelled a word wrong."  Derp...  And this is why he is perfect for me.  I am usually a Grammar Nazi and he bested me this time.  But after he called me out, he did profess his love for me and tell me how thoughtful and sweet I was.  It was just in the midst of a lot of laughter and head shaking.

I know I have been Missing In Action for the most part the last week or so.  I have been deep in party planning mode and dealing with a sick baby (although you would never know it by his awesome attitude) and basically just being a very domestic mom and wife.  My husband was on vacation all last week so I really enjoyed spending more time with him.  Alas, my blogging suffered a bit but I hope to get back in the swing of things, especially for the Holidays which is my favorite time of year.  To help me get my blogging feet wet again, I thought I would post the most fabulous Holiday shoe.  Do not get these wet, however.

DIY: Ribbon Statement Necklace

Tuesday, November 13, 2012
I decided to make a necklace.  It's semi-DIY b/c I used a piece from the {styled} By Tori Spelling TM collection from JoAnn's.   Here's a quick rundown of how easy this was:

I cut two pieces of 5/8" wide black satin ribbon approximately 18" long.

The I tied a knot around the end rings of the "necklace" and cut off the excess.

I tied two knots on the ribbon to hold as place markers for when I tie the necklace on.

Coats McGoat

Wednesday, November 7, 2012
Although I live in North Texas (I want to say Dallas so bad), and the winters are not super cold, we have our share of chilly days.  I need a coat for these days ahead.  I'm starting early because while we have had some cooler weather, it was in the 70s yesterday.  Sigh.  I'm ready for fall clothes!  And coat weather.  I'm into shearling now for some reason.  Not sure if it's the trendiest thing going but I sure found a lot of cute coats with shearling details that I like.  Here are some in all price points that I think would work great for a Dallas North Texas winter.

Which do you like best?

So Ready

Friday, October 26, 2012
Original Image from here

I am so ready for this weekend.  It was a long week for me.  My little one had his first cold that started last Thursday and he is just now getting over it.  I am so tired.  I am downright sleepy!  So armed with a nice cup of Johan, I am ready to tackle this day and start my weekend.  There are no big plans in our future.  Maybe a nice lunch at Copeland's in Southlake on Saturday and a trip to Frisco Hills on Sunday to check on the house.  I may actually venture out to get some cardio and do some shopping and get in a real workout or two.  I will, as always, get in some online shopping and major internet-ernizing.  To piggy back off of my dear cousin and photographer, Shayla of Shayla J. Photography, I decided to share a few weekend links so you can internet-ernize as well...

The Animal Print Shop
- just the cutest collection of animal photography ever.  I can't wait until we get in the house so I can get a print for Dax's room.

- a great site where you can shop for products endorsed by celebrities and experts.  I've purchased a couple of great items that I was so happy with - a glass cake stand and some very cool earrings.  Lots of great items to check out.

Half Baked - The Cake Blog - cakes and confections and dreamy sweet pics.  Love this blog.

Hostess with the Mostess® - party pics and ideas galore.  Lots of free printables too.  While you're at it, check out some pics of my baby shower here.

People - for all your celebrity gossip and fashion as well as some actual real news thrown in occasionally.  I love to judge celebs and hear about their baby bumps (so happy for Lisa Ling, btw).  I'm just being honest.

Alrighty roo, that wraps it up for me.  Hope you guys have a blessed and fantastic weekend!

Some pics of the house...

Real progress.  So now they need to finsh the brick and stone and then they'll do the wood floors and cabinets and then paint and tile...I think.  Hurry up house.  I am so tired of living in an apartment that is basically storage.  We are so in limbo.  I need space.  Country-burbs here we come.

Slim in Sixty

Tuesday, October 23, 2012
I have steadily lost weight after the baby but at a snails pace.  Granted, I've only worked out twice since having the baby but I'm trying to get motivated to do a lot more.  Luckily, I only have one size to go.  Major motivations are fashion, of course.  While Girl with Curves can make anything look good, she has a great figure.  Right now, I do not.  So I'm not necessarily upset about being larger than normal, but my shape is all whacked out.  Need to get these stomach muscles working again.  Also, I have a destination wedding to attend next summer in the Dominican Republic that I am so excited for.  I need to make sure I look nice for my cousin as I am her Matron of Honor but I need to look nice for my hubs and for a swimsuit as well, although it will certainly be a one-peice.  I don't have time to get my stretch marks lasered before then.  Ha!

"They" say give yourself time, don't set time limits on postpartum weight loss and the baby is worth it.  Yes the baby is worth it but it still doesn't mean I'm content looking the way I do.  I want Dax to have a cute mom - no frumps allowed.  I am a bit depressed about my body right now.  It's just a fact.  I'm trying not to obsess especially since I can do more about it.  So, I'm giving myself two months to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight, which was still overweight anyway but at least I have styilsh clothes I can wear.  And in the months following, I will continue to work out, shape up and get healthy.  This post is for accountability.  I'm putting it out here in the blogosphere and so it shall be.

Campaign Trail

Monday, October 22, 2012

I’m on a mission.  I need to convince my husband to let us get a French Bulldog (hereafter referred to as a Frenchie) when the baby turns one-ish.  He just doesn’t like them or any brachycephalic dog really.  We watched Dogs 101 on Animal Planet and it helped my case a bit.  But not enough.  Yes, he learned that they are affectionate and relatively low key.  But he still says no.  So rude.

So now, my almost ten month campaign begins.  Must convince Felton to let me get the little doggie of my dreams.  Here’s how I begin.

Start wearing this sweater:

-Send him lots of pictures of Frenchie puppies (they are adorable beyond!)

-Send him even more Youtube videos of Frenchies playing with babies.
-Decorate Dax’s nursery with a Frenchie theme.  Ok, probably not going to do this but it’s still brilliant.
-Find Frenchie owners who will give me testimonials about what wonderful pets they make and give an overview of these to Felton once month.

I think my tenancity will help me with this endeavor.  If not, my back-up dog is a Lab.
