Get My Shine On

Sunday, November 20, 2011
This is very random but I just like this picture of me so I thought I would post it.  Here I am in an elevator at the Luxor in Las Vegas.  We stayed here for a couple of nights before moving over to the Mandalay Bay to get married.  By the way, I was not a fan of the Luxor, but I am a bit of a snob so...  I still haven't printed all my pics for my candid album and was going through the pics today.  I love how my clutch is gold like the wonderfully tacky elevator trim.  My shoes were gold too although you can't see them.  So matchy-matchy.

These Boots Were Made for Stylin'

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Finally wore my new boots as the weather has cooled down.  I really can't wait to get a DSLR and make my husband take my photos, like any obligatory style blogger would.   I have a great point and shoot but the cell phones pics will have to do for these bad boys.  Cute, no? I feel like a motorcycle cop, which is basically what I was going for when I was searching for a flat black boot.   Love!

The Comfy Cocooner

Wednesday, November 16, 2011
One lazy Saturday, I decided to finally break out the $20 Caftan I bought from World Market a few months ago.  I fell in love.  It is such a cute print and it is just so comfy without looking like a mumu. The hubs really liked it too.  I even ended up going out in public.  With shoes, of course.

Ebelskivers Accompli!

Tuesday, November 15, 2011
I took one look at the Ebelskivers pan from WS and knew I had to have it. The thought of a Nutella filled pancake was too much for me to resist. I had this pan for about 2 weeks before I attempted to make some Ebelskivers but here are a few pics of my first attempt. I filled them with my very own blueberry, powdered sugar concoction. Yummers!

butter

I mixed about 3 oz cream cheese with about 1/3 c powdered sugar and a tad bit of cream to thin it out.  Once smooth, I mixed in 1/2 c frozen blueberries.  All I had were frozen blueberries...

You are supposed to fill about 1T - I think I overfilled this first step.

Here, I added the blueberry filling. I topped off with a bit more batter.

Thanx to my hubs for taking a pic of me turning the pancakes. I used my stir-fry chopsticks. Worked fine. Note the turkey bacon. MMMMmmmm.

Success, albeit a bit brown.

I'm so proud of my first effort. Subsequent attempts should be much more successful.

I added a dusting of powdered sugar and some Mrs. Butterworth's and, um, yum! They were so good.

Lucky Be a Cammy Tonight

Luck. Such a loaded word. I'm usually not into "luck". Not really what I consider the lucky sort. I always feel blessed, even when life is not so super great, God is always good. But luck is something different, no? I really don't gamble. I don't like the feeling of losing money. But when it comes to contests... you don't really lose anything. With the popularity of facebook promotions and email contests, I find myself scooching into the lucky people club. In the past year, I've received all sorts of great samples and freebies (a $120 value Clarisonic system, a full sized bottle of Diane by Diane Von Furstenberg perfume) from Vogue, being a Vogue Influencer. In September, I won $500. The most I'd ever won before that, ever, was $50 about 4 years ago. Then I received an amazing $250 credit to Moda Operandi (Thanx, Rachel Zoe). Now, I get some love from William Sonoma just because I reviewed a product. Tell you more later. Sah-weet. I could get used to this. I suppose I just have to make sure to have a heavy web presence. Guess that means more blogging. Oh, darn. ;-P

This was a nice surprise in mail last week.  I love free.  It was also a pretty good read.  More ads than anything but I love ads.  A bit too much Lindsey Wixson for my taste but apparently this glossie has helped her star rise.  Good for her.  She's just not my taste.  I'm still into Daria Werbowy.  "Where she been at?" (insert sassy urban voice)

11 Questions for 11.11.2011

Friday, November 11, 2011
In honor of the special day that only comes once every hundred or so years:

1 ) fact or fiction? - Fiction
2 ) Underwater or high in the sky? - High in the Sky
3 ) Lethal Virus or Nuclear Explosion? - Lethal Virus
4 ) cardio or weights? - Cardio
5 ) crocs or toms? - neither... ok, Toms
6 ) Vampires, werewolves or zombies? Vampires, duh
7 ) If someone gave you a pony as gift, what would you do with it?
I would love it and hug it and kiss it and squeeze it but I couldn't ride it. Wouldn't want to kill the poor little thing.
8 ) What do you think of todays' trends in fashion?
I love that now in fashion anything goes. From bells, flares, and skinnies to boho, luxe or preppy, it's all good. I'm not a super fan of GaGa's choices but at least she keeps us talking, I suppose.
9 ) Do you keep up with the Kardashians? Yes, I have kept up with the Kardashians in the past but I am rethinking my position on keeping up with them. I feel like keeping up with them is slowly decaying my moral fiber. I don't get enough soluble fiber so my moral fiber is quite important to me.
10 ) Where would you live if you had to live outside of America?
Paris, mais naturellement!
11 ) What is your next project? I need to start sewing a mustard silk cocktail dress. Oh and hopefully a baby :~).

Tickled Pink

I bought some pink James Jeans "leggings", really jeggings from shopbop - on sale playas! Love them. Here is my dream outfit to go with them this fall:

from clockwise at top left: Magaschoni sweater, Topshop earrings, Kate Spade clutch, James Jeans leggings, MICHAEL Pumps, Marc by Marc Jacobs Watch, Gorjana Bracelet, Fragments Bracelet, Talbots Bracelet

Free Spree

Last month I won a great gift from Talbots in the Talbots Ashley Falcon Contest on Facebook.  Here's my winning photo:

And here's what I bought with the $500 Talbots gift card I won:

Nude Pump - $149

Knot tee - $49.50 (mine is dark brown aka Mascara)

Slim Cords in Ginger - $79.50 (I purchased long length so they wouldn't flood)

Black Wool Cape - $189

Pleat Tee in Makeup - $39.50

Black Scrunch neck Tunic - $99

Black Suede Envelope Clutch - $89 (would have preferred an over-sized clutch but this one is really chic)

I listed the regular prices.  I used promo codes!  Normally, when I shop on my dime, I'm fairly frugal.  I may buy one pair of nice jeans (Citizens, James)  one month and a couple of months later, I'll spend about $50 at Old Navy on some basic tops.   I always plan my purchases.  Rarely do I shop spontaneously and most of my wardrobe planning revolves around shoes.   Seriously - shoes before outfit.  Backwards to you maybe but that's how I roll.  It was definitely a pleasant shopping experience to be carefree about the items I chose.  So thankful to Talbots for the card and this experience!

Horns

Me: So babe, what's the game plan?
Hubs: Game plan? You tell me. How are you going to dominate me now?
Me: Honey, you are so funny. I'm not dominating. I told you, you are the head of the household.
Hubs: Yeah, yeah...(laughs) but you're the horns coming out from my head (snickering laugh)
Me: (insane laughter)

My Ode to Cinco de Mayo

My husband's job is having a salsa contest tomorrow (why the day after Cinco de Mayo remains a mystery to me) so of course, I was volunteered to make some homemade salsa for his team (as a manager, he needed to make sure they came through). I was actually happy to do it. I've been feeling super domestic lately. Below is the recipe I came up with. It just came together in my head after researching some recipes on line. At first after mixing all the ingredients and tasting the salsa, I was worried. The taste was ok, pleasant and fresh but something was missing. So I added the cumin. Better but I was still worried. After going to bed and sleeping on it, I tasted the salsa again today and muy beuno. It tastes so good that I had to share my recipe. Enjoy. It is really simple and really yummy!

Fancy Shortcut Salsa

Ingredients:

1 can original Rotel
1 tub store bought pico de gallo
2 to 3 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
1/2 small white onion, chopped
2 roasted red peppers, chopped
2 large cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Tony Chachere's
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon olive oil
Juice of half a lime
Sea Salt to taste

In a large glass bowl, combine all ingredients. Stir well. Cover with plastic wrap and chill overnight before serving (flavors need to meld together).

Plan an Aloha Themed Bridal Shower

I recently hosted a bridal shower for a dear friend who is getting married in Hawaii in July of this year. Predictably, we had a luau theme shower - how could we not? The majority of the planning was my duty but I did have 3 co-hostesses (thank the Lord)! I started planning an inspiration board as a jump off.

The menu consisted of Mini Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Island Chicken Skewers, Shrimp and Pineapple Bites, Dill Pickle and Olive Potato Salad, Sweet and Sour Meatballs and so much more. I really think the food is the best part of showers, but that's just me. All the food was homemade by us hostesses and was so delicious.

After much obsessing, particularly over the "Pimp My Cupcake" bar, everything came together so wonderfully.

The cupcake bar was my favorite project.  Let me tell you more about how I put it together.  I used a paper cupcake stand from Martha Stewart Crafts and wrapped the edges with rainbow ribbon.   For the cupcake decorations, I used an assortment of cocktail picks, gumballs, sprinkles and diy cocktail umbrellas (using toothpicks, festive paper, a circle punch and double stick tape). Here is a good tutorial for those.  We even had a contest on who decorated pimped their cupcake the best.  It was a great activity.  See products below if you want to host a similar "Pimp My Cupcake" Bar.

Shout out to the talented photographer, Shayla Jenkins for capturing such a special time for Kim.  The bride was so happy with her shower and she received some great gifts too!

I always recommend using a mood board when planning a party.  I think we nailed it!  What do you think?   Feel free to reach out if you even need a party board for inspiration.  I love making them and love to help plan parties!

Two Year Cotton

(note - this post is old - from Feb 2010)

My husband and I just celebrated our 2 year wedding Anniversary on Sunday. We went to a great dinner at Kirby's in Southlake on Saturday night. What a treat. So far, I love being married and I recommend it.

I really liked my makeup. I wore eyeliner on the bottom - I never do that but I will start.

The happy couple back at home. Notice my chalkboard. I'll post a better pic soon.

Chalk It Up

I was so inspired by the following that I bought a Chalkboard Frame from Pottery Barn for above my living room console table. I can't wait to get it and of course, I will post a picture.

Sorry I don't have links to the pics above. I got them from Google and saved without noting the location. Please forgive me.

Here is the Pottery Barn frame I bought, thanx to MyPoints gift cards - free never goes out of style.

Movin' On Up

I'm officially moving my Cocooners blog to blogger from Wordpress.   I'm going to keep the Wordpress blog up but I'm going to post my archived posts here.  I think the blogger platform will receive more traffic.  Let's hope so.  I've been blooging for about 5 years now and I have yet to reach a significant reader base.  Here goes...
